I don't know what motivates you - different people are motivated by different things. But, whatever floats your boat, nothing bad can come from sharing a tidbit of your DB2 knowledge with the DB2 community!
Yes, there are some great prizes. You could possibly attend IDUG with your T&L expenses paid, or attend The DB2 Symposium and have your T&L expenses paid, or you could win a new iPad, or a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate. If prizes aren't your "thing" or are prohibited by your short sighted, under appreciative, organization, no worries - we can make a donation to charity in lieu of the prize earned.
I can tell you, with absolute certainty, based on 2011 and 2012 contests, that participates DO advance their careers. Some have earned promotions and raises. Others have had new doors opened for them. One contestant, who was "between employment opportunities," received a terrific job offer just days after the 2011 contest ended. I'm not pulling your leg here. This is good for your resume whether you're job shopping or not!
Feeling shy? Hey, when it is your turn, it's just you and your computer. It's not like there are 100 people in an audience watching you. Just put a stuffed animal or doll next to your computer or laptop, or a picture of a family member, and now you've got your audience. Our kind and gentle judges always offer constructive advice and they are very nice.
